This Doppelmayr detachable quad replaced the Great Gorge Summit Double, a Borvig in 1998. It follows a new alignment slightly to the left of its predecessor, allowing for easier access to the Canyon trail. The same year, the Bear Peak Express (not yet open for the season), replaced the Kamikaze Double, also a Borvig. The two lifts are nearly identical with short length UNI Spacejet drive terminals at the top, and medium length UNI Spacejet tension terminals at the bottom. The South Peak Express features a steep climb out of the bottom terminal, and then the lift follows a generally flat and rolling profile the rest of the way to the top. In the middle, it crosses over a snowmaking pond and the bottom of the Sojourn Double (also not yet open for the season). Length is 5546 feet and vertical is 995 feet, making it the longest and highest vertical lift at Mountain Creek. The lift is running faster than in the past few years, though still not at full speed. It used to run at 600-700 feet per minute, averaged 800 feet per minute during this recording, and the design speed is 1000 feet per minute.
