The mosque was built in 1643 CE under the patronage of Prince Dara Shikoh, the eldest son of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. Dara Shikoh represents a distinctive period in Mughal history marked by intellectual curiosity, cultural exchange, and coexistence. Deeply influenced by Sufi thought, he sought dialogue between different philosophical traditions of the Indian subcontinent.
