Epic Challenge Accepted: DUNE of DOOM is DONE 🏃‍♀️ Woolacombe Dunes parkrun Adventure

Our parkrun tourism destination this week wasn't just any parkrun, it was the stuff of legends - Woolacombe Dunes Parkrun. An adventure that takes participants through a diverse terrain, from sandy paths to lush greenery, and of course, the famed DUNE of DOOM. This towering dune presents a challenging ascent that tests both physical strength and mental resilience. Iona took on the challenge and defeated it! She is now one of the epic parkrunners who have ascended its sandy slopes. But the challenges don't finish there, the devious course designers drop you back down to the beach level and then make you run all the way back up to the finish, fiends! However, the beauty of the landscape, the symphony of the waves and wind more than make up for the burning in the legs, it's a beautiful and inspiring place within which to run. Running with us this week were good friends, Becks and Adam and family who then joined us for a lovely morning of post parkrun faff, firstly with a delicious breakfast at the Beachcomber Cafe (highly recommended!) followed by a stroll along the beach to revist the DUNE to allow Ruth to experience the challenge! We had also travelled down the night before to be ready to complete the challenge (I didn't fancy a 3:30am get up time) and camped the night nearby where 40mph+ winds tried their best to blow us away, fortunately failing in their attempts!
