Hey guys, Zach here at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna be taking a look at the CargoSmart rooftop cargo bag. This is going to be a really good way to get some storage on top of your roof, whether you're going on a family vacation or a camping trip, this is going to be a good way to get 15 cubic feet on your roof. But you don't have to keep anything up there permanent. This bag is a nice soft bag so you can easily fold it and put it away whenever you're not using it. but it gives you good space, and it also keeps your stuff protected from the elements. Now, when it comes to carrying a bag on top of your roof, the most important thing, other than keeping your stuff dry is securing it to your roof. And this comes with four straps. And it doesn't matter if you have raised side rails or raised rails and crossbars, or just crossbars, you can attach this to it. So in this situation, we have two straps running from the driver's side to the passenger side, and then we have two straps running to each crossbar. So that's gonna do a really good job of keeping this secured to our vehicle, just make sure you have it tightened down and always double check it before you take off. Now, when it comes to the straps, I like the size of them. I've used a few bags before, and they usually just have a cinch strap that you tie down. I like the buckles. But my favorite part about the way the straps work is how they have a strap on here that's sewn in, and it gives you several whole different tie down points to run those through. So I definitely know that I'm holding my bag down compared to just throwing a strap over and just trying to tighten it down to the roof. That way, I know that these are holding onto the bag but also pulling it to the roof. With this bag size, I think that you could fit it in some cargo baskets if you wanted to, it'd have to be a fairly large one. But if you're gonna sit it on a bare roof like we have today I recommend getting a pad to slide underneath there. Not only will that keep your stuff from sliding around but it will protect your paint because that material is kinda hard. And I think over time, going down the highway you could see some marks on your roof. That one, right there we offer is from right LineGear. This is a really good one. We put this underneath all of the bags that we use around here. And another thing that I like about this is the strap that attaches to our crossbar on the front. This is sewn in. I think it's a little long for where the hook and loop works together but it is just another point of securing that to our roof. So I think think it's better to be a little bit more redundant than not have it at all. And besides keeping your stuff secure to your roof, the most important thing is keeping it dry and clean. And this is going to do a good job of that. It's IPX5 certified, which essentially means is they put a water nozzle against this for three minutes and they didn't have any issues. So that's a slight simulation of driving through a rainstorm. And I think that the last thing you want is to have a wet sleeping bag, or a duffle bag when you get to your trip. So as long as you have this flap down and the zippers completely shut you shouldn't have any issues with that. Another thing when it comes to water protection is the way you have this on your roof. So this is going to be at the front of the vehicle because this is what's gonna be taken the most stress when it comes to water and wind. And that's because there's no zipper up front. So the zipper and seams will be the weakest point when it comes to water protection. So not having that up front is really gonna help out. The 15 cubic feet that this is offering is a really good size. I think it fits well on the van. I think it would fit well on most vehicles, but with that larger size it's definitely gonna work out better for vans, SUVs. But I like it because I don't need to have a big giant box on here. You know, those boxes are expensive but they really confine you to a certain set height. This, if maybe my load's a little taller in the front, I can kind of move it around a little bit and the bag gets a little taller to kind of shift around. So I like the soft sides, it allows us to carry uneven loads. But definitely check with the owner's manual of your vehicle. Be sure to not put any real weight on glass. I think like sleeping bags and duffle bags are okay but I wouldn't put a ton of weight on your roof unless you have it in like a cargo basket. I really like the mat
