Every shot from my round at the Cottrell Resort's Mackintosh Course, Bonvilston, Cardiff on 6th August 2025. 👉 Many more every shot golf vlogs here • 18 Hole, Every Shot Golf Round Vlogs Many of the courses I've played and made a video for have been first time visits. Not so with the Cottrell Resort as I've played here quite a few times before, not long after it opened back in the late 1990's. I used to work near by and occasionally we'd grab an afternoon tee time and enjoy the two rolling parkland courses. Having not played here since for 25 years and having several failed attempts due to one of the two courses being busy, I grabbed at a chance to play both after speaking to the very helpful staff here who arranged tee times for me to play both. My second course here was the Mackintosh after enjoying the Button Gwinnet earlier in the morning. This is true classical parkland course, longer than its sibling with not as much water, but certainly an excellent challenge. For me it has strong vibes of many superb parkland courses such as those at The Players, St. Pierre & Tracy Park. The course is designed around the original features of the original mature trees within the resort and provides a different feel from the Button, which is a great credit, having two distinct courses at the same venue. The Course gets its name from past Cottrell resident, Alfred Donald Mackintosh of Mackintosh the 28th Chief of Clan Mackintosh and Chief of Clan Chattan. Living at Cottrell until his death in 1938, Mackintosh made his Welsh seat a centre of lavish entertainment and social gatherings. The course winds its way through the rolling parklands of the Cottrell Resort, crossing the access road from the A48 several times. This gives you a good perspective of what the Mackintosh has to offer as you arrive at the venue. Several holes are close to this access road but trust me when I say they look closer when you are driving on the road that when you are on the course! The first is one of these holes which is a good par 5 to get you up and running which also sets the stall out for your round. A good drive here really helps as with the natural contours, and a wonderfully located mature tree near the green, it sets the scene for the course with good course planning being rewarded with scoring opportunities. Water only comes into play on a few holes but it is used well and not too punitive. The main hazards are the mature trees, to which the course is really well designed, and also conventional bunkers. When I played here the course was in good condition, even with it being August and having endured a hot summer with minimal rain and no doubt plenty of golf being played on it. The greens were great and held their lines well, despite the greenkeepers mentioning that they'd suffered a bit from disease which I hardly noticed during my round. I found the course slightly more demanding physically than the Button, maybe as I had 18 in my legs already, but the undulations seem more pronounced on the Mackintosh. Buggies are catered for well here and are available to hire. Green fees are very competitive for a club of this stature and the staff here are most accommodating in making things run smoothly. All the members I spoke to here were very welcoming and enthusiastic about their club, as well they should be. Both courses here are good quality and I honestly can't pick a favourite from the two. They're both very enjoyable and a good test of your game. 👍😊 Edited in Premier Pro Graphics and Shot Tracer: After Effects 👉📽🏌️♀️ / @cjsgolf My Clubs Driver - Callaway Mavrik (2020) 3 Wood - Callaway Mavrik (2020) 5 Wood - Dunlop Deltic (1987!!) 2 & 3 Iron - Callaway X Forged UT (2nd hand) 5-9, PW, AW - Callaway Rogue ST Pro (2nd hand) SW - Ping Eye 2 (1989!!)
