In the early weeks of Russia’s full-scale invasion, several Ukrainian cities in the south and east of the country were seized and occupied. Since then, Russian taxi drivers have been transporting soldiers and civilians from the "mainland" to and from the "new territories" — driving along bombed out roads, under drone and shell fire, and past military checkpoints to reach towns on the front line. This Insider's report reveals the dark reality of these trips — the premiums paid to drivers working in a warzone, the desire of some Russian soldiers to desert, and the demand for sex workers in areas of Russian military occupation.
