Thank you :) / cmrr // https://en.tipeee.com/cmrr The wind serenade allows us to play with the great diversity of timbres in this category of instrument. The serenade's light character, reinforced by march rhythms, gives it a particular energy. But this does not preclude a certain gentleness, as Dvořák's Serenade for Winds proves. First performed in 1878, and written shortly before the Slavonic Dances, it already has the same style, using themes and rhythms evocative of traditional Bohemian and Moravian music throughout its four movements: Two oboes, two clarinets, two bassoons, a contrabassoon, three horns, a cello and a double bass make up the instrumentation of this serenade. Hans Schmidt-Isserstedt had a dual style. At times fabulously elegant and balanced, at others implausibly fiery. He was not a regular conductor. He told Radio-Hamburg that he sometimes forgot to conduct, being absorbed in the elaboration of one of his compositions. That said, he never lost his concentration for a Mozart symphony: he conducted with his hand on his heart from one end to the other, with an ecstatic smile on his lips, and sometimes with a little tear." We feel the same emotion when listening to this recording.
