In this week's Homeschool Conversations episode, I interview Nadia, a ballerina, entrepreneur, and Charlotte Mason homeschooler who has turned her love for Shakespeare into a thriving business, Bluebirds and Blackberries Studio. Nadia shares how growing up with Charlotte Mason’s educational philosophy shaped her love of learning, encouraged deep connections across subjects, and prepared her for success in dual enrollment classes and beyond. She explains how the Charlotte Mason method, with its emphasis on narration and the “science of relations,” gave her not only academic skills but also a lifelong sense of curiosity and wonder. One of the highlights of our conversation is Nadia’s passion for Shakespeare. Introduced at a young age through joyful recitation, Shakespeare became a beloved part of her homeschool journey. As Nadia puts it: “It just made Shakespeare feel like an old friend and not something scary or hard.” She contrasts this with her ninth-grade school experience, where Shakespeare was replaced with SparkNotes translations, losing the richness of the original text. Nadia also talks about how her need to track Shakespeare’s many characters led her to create printable Shakespeare puppets, which blossomed into Bluebirds and Blackberries Studio. Today, she offers Shakespeare resources like puppets, recitation sheets, coloring pages, and artist studies for families who want to make Shakespeare fun and accessible in their homeschool. Along the way, Nadia has learned valuable lessons about entrepreneurship—courage, persistence, and the importance of simply starting, even when things aren’t perfect. Her advice for other teens and kids interested in entrepreneurship? “Just believe in yourself. You don’t have to have everything perfect … Just go for it and do it.” Topics Covered in This Episode: Charlotte Mason homeschooling and narration Transitioning to college-level work from a Charlotte Mason background Why starting Shakespeare young makes a difference Favorite plays, quotes, and memories of Shakespeare How entrepreneurship builds confidence and life skills Advice for teens and kids interested in starting a business Nadia’s best tip for hard homeschool days If you’re a homeschool parent who wants to bring Shakespeare to life in your homeschool, this episode is filled with encouragement, practical tips, and inspiration.
