Varsaad (ವರ್ಸಾದ್) featuring the extraordinary Raghu Dixit. The song is in two languages Gujarati and Kannada making it truly a meeting of two ancient cultures in a modern way we live our lives. Varsaad came to us when we were on stage in Japan, desperately missing the rains back home - the smell of wet earth, the sight of trees and plants bathing in the rains, puddles and huddles, more umbrellas than faces, endless cups of chai, and everything that meant being home during the monsoons. There is a universality in the monsoons of India, across language and culture. To bring that flavour, we asked our dear friend and musician extraordinaire, Raghu Dixit to sing about monsoons in Kannada! We asked him to sing these lines about how life giving and life affirming rains are and they were beautifully adapted by Kiran Kaverappa who wrote these beautiful lyrics in Kannada. So here is Varsaad. Let us know what your favourite Varsaad accompaniment is! For us it has been the beauteous train journeys through the ghats this season! Aishwarya Natarajan, our extended family and advisor who has been instrumental in helping us be at the right places and meet the right people. There is a huge round of thanks to many more fantastic people we got to work with Varsaad is recorded, mixed and mastered by Lucky Sharma at Mortar Sound. Raj Jariwala and Hamza Daginawala for helping with recording of the drums. Mayank Kapadia, Dhruv Kapadia and Mihir Bagdawala for providing additional gear and support, as always. Varsaad features Swati Minaxi on lyrics for the first time with Yogendra Saniyawala. We would also like to thank Valmeekam(Wayanad) for hosting us at their incredible mud house which was made possible by Saptaswarasounds, Avinash Singh and Arjun Mithra. The video was shot on iPhone with Gireesh Menon doing the duties, also Gaurav Kapadia showed his incredible camera skills yet again. The video is edited by Biju Nambiar and Gaurav Kapadia. We would like to thank each and every beautiful soul who have helped us along this journey.
