Artwork by Take Me Back Pirate Radio Archives. Big up Marc P for this set!! DJ Lightning B2B DJ Blonxie, with the Nasty Crew (Stormin (RIP), Sharky Major, Hitman Hyper & Armour), MC Dizzee Rascal, and MC Kosha. Dizzee Rascal was roughly 16/17 years old when this set was recorded. He was doing regular sets with the Nasty Crew and it seemed as though he was looking to be part of their collective, despite the immense combinations between him and the other Nasty Crew MCs, the likes of MC Kano had caught their attention and would join the crew which would leave Flava FM to Deja Vu FM after Marcus Nasty was to spend time away after getting in some trouble with the law. This opened the door for the likes of DJ Mak 10 to take the helm as he was already doing sets on Deja Vu FM. Dizzee would join the likes of Wiley and The Entourage (Roll Deep), also doing sets with DJ Slimzee and the members of Pay As You Go Cartel. MC Hyper had recently joined the Nasty Crew after leaving the Reckless Crew (Jungle collective) with D Double E. He was also joined by lyrical heavyweight MC Armour who has some influences from MC GodsGift mixed with a raw Dancehall style. They are joined by the lyrical talent of MC Kosha who was part of the A Team, a crew on Flava FM. On a deeper observation you can see the darker nature to the lyricism from this lot during this era. The lyrics were no longer a happy bubbly UK Garage affair, instead MCs were now talking about the road, street way of life, crime and violence. Raves like "The Vibe", "Rumble", "Stampede" and "Young Man Standing" had attracted a local East London audience that had an appetite for this style of music and MCing. In the years that followed the Nasty Crew would expand their fanbase and become UK wide sensation and are also considered as the pioneers of the Grime sounds along with the likes of Wiley, Dizzee Rascal, Jon E Cash, Musical Mob, and handful of others. The Nasty Crew had made tracks as a collective teaming up with other producers as well in the early 2000s. D Double E then went on to form the Newham Generals with MC Footsie and Monkster. MC Stormin (RIP) crossed back to his Jungle DNB roots teaming up with Skibadee (RIP), Shabba D and Harry Shotta, forming SaSaSaS. Dizzee Rascal released his hit album, Boy In Da Corner. Eventually, breaking away from Roll Deep after a feud with Asher D and then Wiley. He continued to produce for his label Dirtee Stank, eventually going mainstream. 2001 was an incredibly successful year for UK Garage commercial UK chart releases with: All I Want - Mis-Teeq, Baby, Can I Get Your Number - OBI Project ft.
