I build the majority of the right fuel tank for the Van's RV-7A. I start with interior ribs, and more tank taffy (ProSeal or Flame Master gas tank sealant) than I've worked with. Interior ribs are fairly straightforward, after which the end ribs are worked on. These include more fittings and hardware than any of the ribs up to this point. Once the ribs are in position and riveted I work on vent lines, fuel pickups and things like fuel senders--which drive the fuel gauges in the cockpit. I briefly cover some of the fuel system decisions I had to wade through up to this point. Do I need a fuel return? Do I want capacitive senders or mechanical senders? Do I want inverted tanks? How do these decisions affect me later on? ------------ I'm Ryan, an aviation enthusiast who has decided to build his own aircraft and publish the entire process online for others to watch along. The airplane is a two-person experimental kit built aluminum plane capable of over 200 miles per hour, and a range of nearly 700 miles. The kit is manufactured by Van's Aircraft, one of the most prolific kit providers on the planet. The airplane is aerobatic, functional, and fun. The build is challenging, time consuming, fun and rewarding. Check out my instagram @ryanflyspdx Also check out my new website, ryanflys.com.
