I can definitely count on two hands how many people I come across under thirty in well over 25 workshops that I’ve visited and that’s a big problem for Classic cat owners down the line. Considering most people I come across are shall we say greying men of a mature age, it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that within 10, 15 or 20 years, there’s going to be a lot of expensive paperweights taking up garage space, not only here in Australia but across the world. Certainly, from what I hear, in the United States and the UK. There’s a dearth of talent coming through, not only technicians, or what we used to call mechanics, but panel beaters, painters, auto electricians and trimmers. On that last one, from what I hear, if you want the wooden dash done, you’d better get in quick or be prepared for a very long wait because the skills are dying out and just not being replaced with new talent. So, in this video, I just wanted to give an idea of just how keen someone can be in their work, the pride they take in their role by featuring Cameron, quite staggeringly, one of the pair of techs under 30 along with Jimmy, at The Healey Factory, whom I’ve seen working on everything from a DeTomaso Pantera to a humble Singer Gazelle wagon.
