University of Karachi’s Professor Sharif al Mujahid passed away on Monday, 27th January 2020. He died after a long illness at the age of 93. He was buried at the Karachi University Graveyard. Heads of various departments, faculty members and students attended his funeral. They expressed grief over the death of Professor. Prof. Sharif al Mujahid was born on July 1, 1926 in Chennai (old Madras), India. He did MA Islamic History from the Madras University, MA in Journalism from the Stanford University, USA and MA Islamic Studies from the McGill University, Canada. He started his journalism career in 1945. He joined the University of Karachi as a lecturer in 1955 and became a professor in 1972. Mujahid founded the Karachi University’s journalism department in 1956. Then he was also the founding member of Mass Communication Department of the University of Karachi. He was the Founder Director of the Quaid-e-Azam Academy. He wrote 44 articles during Tehreek-e-Pakistan Movement. He was the most profilic writer of South Asia. He wrote numerous books and more than 20 research papers. His book and publications were translated in different foreign languages. Prof. Sharif ul Mujahid’s book, Quaid-i-Azam Jinnah: Studies in Interpretation, was awarded the President’s Award.
