So, Kazimierz Dolny is a small town in the Lubelskie Voivodeship. Kazimierz on the Vistula is the second name of this charming place. This small town with a population of less than 3,000 people is visited by over a million tourists every year. The crowds of tourists lead to the loss of the charm of the lovely Renaissance town. In the Middle Ages the town had an important trading significance. The city's location on the Vistula Trail influenced the construction of many granaries in the city to store the transported grain. The granaries are the most characteristic buildings. There were 60 granaries in Kazimierz in the 17th century. Some of them still stand, fascinating with their richly ornamented walls. The city was often called a little Gdańsk. The name comes from Casimir the Righteous, Prince of Lesser Poland. The town was named Dolny to differ it from Kazimierz the Mountain. The war with the Swedes and the cholera epidemic weakened the city's influence. Kazimierz Dolny only became popular again in the 19th century because of its appearance. Unfortunately, the city was badly damaged during the two world wars, and restoration began only in 1945. Unique urban, architectural and landscape complex Kazimierz was recognized as one of the best in the world, so since 1994 Kazimierz Dolny is a historical and natural monument of Poland. And nature is protected by the Kazimierz Landscape Park with separate nature reserves. Franciscan monastery from 1638-1668, part of which is an even older Church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary from 1589. This is probably where Wieczna Góra, the place where Kazimierz was born, once lay. To this complex leads an ancient covered staircase-junction. It even looks a bit like some kind of monastery caves. And there is such an echo. And at the top there is an incredible view of Kazimierz Dolny. The market square is located in the central part of the city between the three churches. To get a better look at all the details, better come to town early. At this time, there are still no tourists. Walking around the market square, you can admire the unusual architecture of apartment buildings surrounding the market. The rooster is the symbol of this city. According to legend, the rooster saved the city from evil forces, and now his image can be seen everywhere. Kraków has its own delicacy, obwarzanek, and Kazimierz has yeast buns in the shape of a rooster. Roosters are patented and baked in two versions: with or without a braid. A well in the market square. One of the three wells in the city that served as a street water source. It dates from the nineteenth century. The monument to the dog. There is an interesting legend associated with it. You will learn about it in the video. Greek Catholic Church of St. John the Baptist and St. Bartholomew. The oldest temple in the city. Now it is a slender Gothic building with beautiful Renaissance pediments. But most valuable here are the oldest organs in Poland . The Three Crosses Mountain. Three crosses were erected to commemorate the victims of the plague in 1708. It is worth climbing the mountain to admire the view of the city and the valley of the Vistula River. Despite this, from its top there is a beautiful view of Kazimierz Dolny. Tower. It is an interesting building with a not quite clear purpose. Probably it was used as a lighthouse to facilitate navigation on the Vistula. One can admire the panorama of Kazimierz and the Vistula. The ruins of the 14th century castle of Casimir the Great. Built in the 13th and 14th centuries close to the crossing of the Vistula River, it was supposed to serve as a guard over the crossing. The castle fell into decay in the late 18th century, and the ruins have survived to this day. You will see the continuation of this story in Part 2. It will be also interesting!
