What did Perth really look like a century ago? This film presents authentic archival photographs from 1920s Perth and Fremantle, carefully animated using an AI-assisted cinematic reconstruction process. No actors. No reenactments. Just original historical images, given subtle motion to restore a sense of pace, scale, and everyday life. The goal is not to modernise the past, but to observe it more closely — streets, beaches, trams, harbour life, and quiet moments that once passed unnoticed. All locations have been treated with care, and scenes are narrated conservatively to avoid speculation or exaggeration. 🎞️ About the Process These scenes began as single still photographs. Using AI-assisted depth analysis and motion interpolation, movement was introduced only where visual evidence allowed — preserving the integrity of the original image. This is not a recreation. It is an interpretation. 📚 Archival Thanks & References With sincere thanks to the following institutions for preserving and providing access to Western Australia’s photographic history: State Library of Western Australia (Battye Library) https://slwa.wa.gov.au Collections WA https://collectionswa.net.au Old Perth Collection https://www.oldperth.org.au These archives are invaluable public resources. If you recognise a location or can add historical context, contributions are encouraged. 📌 Notes All imagery is based on historical reference material Motion has been added respectfully and transparently Some scenes are narrated generically where location certainty is limited
