Constructed in 1973 by the J.J. Sietas Shipyard in Hamburg, West Germany, she was originally named the AURELLA, built for SF Line to service Viking Line traffic. From 1982 to 1998, she was known as SAINT PATRICK II, then as EGNATIA II between 1998 and 2000, briefly as VILLE DE SÉTE in 2000, and from 2001 to 2002, she was named CITY OF CORK before she was sold to her current owners. I was extremely impressed by the friendliness and cleanliness on board. The atmosphere was homely and familial. The CTMA team has truly outdone themselves in maintaining such a welcoming and impeccably kept environment. Her original specifications are as follows: Type: ropax ferry Tonnage: 7,210 GRT; 1,893 t DWT Length: 125.22 m Beam: 21.53 m Draught: 8.27 m Installed power: 2 × Stork-Werkspoor 16TM410 diesels, combined 15445 kW Speed: 21.5 kn Capacity: 1500 passengers, 330 berths, 420 cars After a 2003 refit, her specifications were updated: Tonnage: 7,984 GT; 1,325 t DWT Capacity: 1612 passengers, 812 berths, 300 cars The AURELLA was commissioned by SF Line, Finland on May 27, 1972, and launched on June 30, 1973, entering service three days later on the Viking Line's Naantali–Mariehamn–Kapellskär route. The AURELLA served Viking Line until September 1981. In January 1982, after being moored in Mariehamn for the winter, the AURELLA was sold to Irish Ferries and renamed SAINT PATRICK II, to provide additional capacity on the Ireland-France route during the summer months. Due to a lack of traffic during the winter months, she was chartered to other operators over the years, including North Sea Ferries, Belfast Car Ferries, B&I Line, DFDS Seaways, Stena Line, Sealink, and P&O European Ferries. From 1992 to 1995, the SAINT PATRICK II spent the winters sailing for Tallink. Falling passenger numbers led Irish Ferries to withdraw the SAINT PATRICK II from service in September 1997. In May 1998, the SAINT PATRICK II was chartered to Hellenic Mediterranean Lines, renamed EGNATIA II, and placed on the Brindisi–Patras service. In May 2000, she was chartered to Balear Express, Spain, and renamed VILLE DE SÉTE for the Sète–Palma route. After Balear Express went bankrupt in September 2000, the VILLE DE SÉTE was laid up. She was chartered to Swansea Cork Ferries as CITY OF CORK between March and December 2001. In March 2002, the CITY OF CORK was sold to the Government of Canada and registered to Navigation Madeleine Inc, a subsidiary of the Coopérative de Transport Maritime et Aérien (CTMA). In June, she was renamed C.T.M.A. VACANCIER and placed on CTMA's service between Montreal and Cap-aux-Meules. In 2003, she was refitted at Les Mechins Dry Dock, Quebec, with covered bridge wings added. In January 2020, the C.T.M.A. VACANCIER was chartered by the Société des traversiers du Québec to cover the Matane-Baie-Comeau-Godbout route across the Saint Lawrence River, while the engines of the MV F.-A.-GAUTHIER were being repaired and the MV SAAREMAA I was altered to meet Transport Canada standards.
