I have 26+ years of motocross racing experience and over that time also raced quite a few enduros. I can say the stock rear shock on the WR250R has the worst valving of any bike I've owned in the last 20 years. The rebound circuit needs serious help and the compression needs to be far stiffer. I sent the shock to Drew Smith at Works Enduro Rider http://www.werproducts.net/ and the shock is far superior to the original setup. Stock it was a hazard to ride even the dual sport class at our local sand whooped enduros. After Drew revalved the shock it is a much safer and far more of a dirt and I will even say street oriented bike.
