I Drove Through The Worst Parts Of Boston. This Is What I Saw.

Man parts of south Boston are ROUGH! For this episode of dashboard tours, I took i93 south from New Hampshire into the Boston area. I wanted to visit the worst area of Boston I could find. It wasn’t hard - the internet was full of information about two distinct parts of south Boston that are notorious for crime and blight and poverty - Mattapan and Roxbury. So that’s where I would go. It was a glorious sunny late winter day on Monday, March 22, 2021 at noon. We’re going to begin on Blue Hill Avenue in Mattapan and drive around that area for a while and then take Blue Hill back up into Roxbury and see what it’s like up there. Here’s the exact route I’ll take. If you’re from Massachusetts, you’ve heard of these areas, but you might not have seen them yet. I didn’t find these areas overly dangerous during the day, but it’s clear that at night, they can be really rough. Home prices in these parts of town are high - close to $450k. Many are older, multi unit row homes in disrepair. Much of the area along the main thoroughfare are sketch and traversed by people who look like they should be at work, but probably don’t have jobs.
