We Didn’t Start the Virus (We Didn’t Start the Fire 2020 Version)

This version of Billy Joel’s iconic song “We Didn’t Start the Fire” uses the original songs lyrical structure to state the events of 2020 so far (and some of late 2019). Let it be known that the lyrics to this song were written around late May to early June of 2020 so some recent events may not be included. I also apologize if some events mentioned have changed and have since evolved. The original song written and performed by Billy Joel off of the 1989 album “Storm Front” has a deep significance to me. My high school Modern U.S. History class used this song to introduce the various events we would be covering over the course of the year. At the end of the year we were given the opportunity to write our own verse to this song that pulled events from 2000-2019. The first time I read the lyrics to this song I was amazed by the detail of the lyrics and the brilliance in which they were worded. Because of how overwhelming the events of 2020 have been, many people have suggested that a 2020 version of the song was made. I have been extremely impressed by the versions that I have seen so I wanted to make my own.
