Between Lexington and 3rd Avenues on East 73rd street is a collection of historic carriage houses - remnants of the Gilded Age of New York City. A safe distance from the prominent Upper East Side Gilded Age mansions that were built between Madison and 5th Avenues to avoid the smell of the horses and shelter for the carriages , these carriage house provided living spaces for the groomsmen and their families. One floor for the horse stall and carriages, another floor for a hayloft and other floors for living spaces.
