On the other hand, if you lose a debit or credit card, it's as easy as calling your bank or in some cases just deactivating that card from your phone and having a new one sent to you. Plus if someone else finds the cash that you lost well they can go ahead and use that however they want but if someone finds or even worse steals your credit or debit card, in most situations you are protected against fraudulent charges especially with credit cards so if a bad situation like that were to happen, you wouldn't be out any money. #2: No Cash Back Benefits Again this one is pretty self explanatory but obviously if you pay for things with cash then yes it is psychologically proven to help you spend less money in most cases however assuming that you're able to get those spending habits under control, you are not getting any cash back, travel rewards, or any other benefits or protections for that matter by using cash. So by paying with a credit card or even some debit cards like the Point cash back debit card, you are not only getting cash back and other benefits, but in a lot of cases you get extended warranty protections on those purchases, merchant recourse, and a hundred other benefits that are just non-existent with cash. #3: Cash Does NOT Build Credit I put these two points next to each other because if you are going to use a credit card to get some of that cash back and rewards then as I've said a million times before you must use it as if it is cash and you must pay it off on time every time without fail. And if you can do that, not only are you going to get those great rewards but it's also going to help build your credit score in the process which in the long run can save you even more money. #4: Cash is GROSS! I'm not going to harp on this one too much because it's pretty self explanatory but there are countless studies that exposed some pretty jarring statistics. For example your average dollar bill can carry more germs than a household toilet not to mention that the cotton and linen material that we used to make our money here in the US is the perfect breeding ground for all kinds of viruses and bacterias that can usually only live for about 2 days but on paper money they can live up to 17 days. #5: Most People Don't Keep Coins I completely understand that this one does not apply to everyone because a lot of people do keep all of their change and maybe you even have a container in your house and every few months you take that to the bank and cash it in. But even if that is the case, not surprisingly a lot of banks charge fees if you bring in loose change and considering this is a channel all about reviewing financial tools and mobile banks, for me I just want to avoid going to a physical bank as much as possible. But even beyond that, a Coinstar survey found that 55% of individuals who pay with cash, don't bother keeping the change and when I used to use cash, I definitely fell into that category.
