Water Clock made of polished stainless steel and white acetal. This clock is driven by the rising and falling float (ping pong ball). The float can only lift 20 grams, but as it moves over a distance of 115mm vertically and the 60 tooth ratchet wheel only requires 10mm, the power is increased to around 200 grammes by means of the counter balanced bell crank. The water is pumped up from the tube tank below through one of the front stainless tubes (visible) to the small header tank which maintains a constant level via means of the other front stainless tube which returns to the main water tank below. The glass tube tank is fed by an exact, needle valve corrected, flow of water from the header tank and repeatedly fills and syphons via the rear arch shaped tube (visible) with no valves or switches. The syphon mechanism seems simple but a lot of testing is required with combinations of height, pressure, flow rates, tube diameter, U-bend shape, volume, syphon tube tail length, etc. etc. The clock mechanics are similar to my previous two water powered clocks. This clock seems to be remarkably accurate ... only wandering out by a few seconds a day.
