Every culture comes its peculiar words, idioms, and sayings. The Pennsylvania German culture, also known as the Pennsylvania Amish and Mennonite Dutch culture, has its fair share of words, sayings, and phrases that have trickled into the English language for those who live in Lancaster County, PA, known to many as Amish Country. My Mennonite husband Scott quizzes me on ten PA Dutch words, words that many in my community know, to see how many I recognize.
