Here's another rare broadcast of a (partial) airing of the Second City Television (SCTV) episode "Galaxy 66" (S01E17, original Canadian air dates October 10th and 14th 1977) as aired over WMAQ Channel 5. This would have been a repeat, as WMAQ first broadcast this in the 1977-78 season. As presented originally, all segments except the end credits conclude with the "laughing Indian" test pattern that disappeared from subsequent repackagings of the show. Includes: Recording comes midway into Segment 2, as Science Fiction Theater host Bradley Omar (Harold Ramis) is midway through his intro of "Galaxy 66" (a spoof of the 1960-64 TV series Route 66), followed by "movie" itself and futuristic ad parodies Theatrical trailer for "The Onion Field" (ending voiceover by Ed Grennan, which is heard over first few seconds of next commercial) Other commercials for: Dinty Moore Beef Stew (with Vito Scotti?) Revlon Flex Balsam & Protein Correct pH Shampoo (model in white cowboy outfit wielding a blow drier that looks like a gun) Berman's - "The Leather Experts" Show segment 3 (starts with "Swish Buckler" promo (featuring outdated gay depictions), a sketch making fun of the whole "Pyramid Power" thing, more of "Galaxy 66," "Beside the Point" and a "Bald & Brassy" commercial parody) Commercials for: Scotts Turf Builder Continental Airlines - "You Should See Us Now" (with jingle set to tune of "If My Friends Could See Me Now" from "Sweet Charity") (voiceover by Casey Kasem) Sally Hansen Hard-As-Nails with Nylon (ending voiceover by Ed Grennan joined in progress) Gillette Good News! Twin Disposable Razor Segment 4 - "Words To Live By" with Dr. Bradley Omar (Ramis) of the Universal Church of Science (opening voiceover by John Candy) and continuation of "Galaxy 66," followed by ending credits (recording cuts briefly in middle of Bradley's sermon and resumes after credits are already underway; recording ends before credits do) This (most likely) aired on local Chicago TV early Sunday, September 23rd 1979 during the (approximately) 12:10am to 12:28am timeframe. About The Museum of Classic Chicago Television: The MCCTv (FuzzyMemoriesTV) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit whose primary mission is the preservation and display of off-air, early home videotape recordings (70s to early 80s, mostly) recorded off of TV (in Chicago or other cities now too); things which would likely be lost if not sought out and preserved digitally. If you have any old 1970s videotapes recorded off of TV please email: [email protected] Even though (mostly) short clips are displayed here, we preserve the entire broadcasts in our archives - the complete programs with breaks (or however much is present on the tape), for historical preservation. For information on how to help in our mission, to donate or lend tapes to be converted to digital, please e-mail [email protected] Thank you for your help!
