10 people arrested at large grow-op bust in Langley By Stephanie Ip, The Province January 28, 2015 Several thousand marijuana plants were seized and more than 10 arrests made during a massive grow-op bust in Langley on Tuesday. The investigation began four weeks ago, centring on a seven-acre rural property in Langley on Zero Avenue and 264 Street, according to Sgt. Laurie White of the RCMP’s federal serious and organized crime unit. “The focus is on a very large barn — and by large, I mean it’s 51,000 square feet,” White said. “We were able to obtain a search warrant today and we began execution around 9:20 a.m.” The large corner property features multiple access points and is located close to the Aldergrove border crossing, but Tuesday’s investigation did not affect border traffic. Assisted by several RCMP units, as well as the Vancouver Police Department and other specialized teams, officers spent Tuesday clearing out the property and seizing evidence. “It was a very large grow operation inside,” White said. “We don’t even know the scope of it yet.” White said the barn posed a “huge safety risk,” as the electrical system was wired improperly to allow for extra lights. Multiple rooms inside the structure held what was estimated to be several thousand marijuana plants. More than 10 individuals, both men and women, were found and arrested on site, and investigators are now working to determine possible charges. “There’s a lot (to investigate) in the next while — what the production was for, was it licensed, was it not licensed, the scope of who the client base is — it’s certainly of a very large scale,” White said.
