A Local Leader’s Guide to Supporting Social Equity in the Cannabis Industry

In March 2021, New York State lawmakers legalized adult-use cannabis with the primary goal of ensuring that members of minority communities who have been negatively and disproportionately impacted by cannabis prohibition will benefit from legalization. The law’s three-pronged approach to equity includes providing for the expungement of past marijuana convictions, incentivizing participation in the new industry, and requiring investment in communities harmed by the War on Drugs. This webinar helps county leaders to understand cannabis legalization as a social and economic equity issue and offer ways to support social equity applicants – including minorities, women, distressed farmers, and service-disabled veterans – who may be interested in joining this budding industry.
