ICC Kingston 2025 12 14 Collapsed Spey/Garmouth viaduct

Footage taken by the Innes Community Council drone of the Spey/Garmouth viaduct following its collapse on 14th December, 2025. Footage shows the abrupt collapse of the third pillar from the west (GArmouth) side. Following upstream riverbank works in 1995, the river has slowly eroded westwards into its current position. Pre-2000, the main course of the river was to the east side of the viaduct. The old course can be seen marked out by the height of trees that grew as the river course moved westwards. The situation has been of concern for many years, but nothing has been done to carry out simple engineering works that would have guided the river back eastwards. The communication route between Garmouth and Speybay is now gone. The viaduct formed part of the national cycle and footpath network.
