San Diego History-Hard Times-1860-1866-The Great Flood of 1862, A Nation at War, San Diego Justice

The early 1860s were devastating times for San Diego, the state of California, and throughout the United States. In San Diego votes in the 1860 Presidential Election. The Great Flood of 1862 followed by a drought wreaked havoc on the people, agriculture and economy in San Diego as the nation fought the Civil War. Volunteers for military service that resided in San Diego at the time would serve as relief in the states and territories in The West for Army Regulars who would deploy to fight for the Union further East. California volunteers were dispatched to serve at the New San Diego Barracks. Some people resigned to fight for The Confederacy.
