Reformer Martin Luther was born – and died – in Eisleben (Saxony-Anhalt), studied in Erfurt (the capital of modern Thuringia), was a monk in Wittenberg (Saxony-Anhalt) – where he triggered the Reformation with his 95 theses – and translated the Bible into German on the Wartburg high above Eisenach (Thuringia).
