This video highlights the longtime partnership between Florida International University and Baptist Health, showcasing medical students and faculty collaborating in clinical training and classroom settings. It emphasizes the journey of medical students from their early education to becoming full-fledged academic physicians. Watch to see how this partnership impacts clinical education. [Transcript] [Chandra, M.D.] So we've been longtime partners with Florida International University. We've actually been teaching students from FIU ever since their very first graduating class, so we've had this warm and very close relationship with them for many years. Now with adding graduate medical education, we have that chance to put the final pin in their journey on their way towards being full-fledged academic physicians. The partnership is unique, because we have not only the high quality community-based medical care that Baptist is known for, but also the academic rigor, and the emphasis on improving the community and the welfare of this area that FIU brings to the table. Together, we are better than our parts separately. We're able to really bring both the emphasis on academics, and the emphasis on patient care, so our residents have the best possible exposure to both. [Torress-Russotto, M.D.] This is a historic moment for Baptist Health, and for Florida International University, and our community. The need for neurologists continues to increase in the United States, and I feel it is our duty to make sure we provide to our community the neurologists they need. So I'm so excited to be able to work with this new and first cohort of residents that are going to be learning about neurology and then helping our community, and helping many patients in the United States into the future. [Lezcano, M.D.] Well, I think it's an amazing privilege that I've been able to do both medical school and residency in my hometown, and now as a resident, I'll be able to gain the skillset here to give back to my community and help my patients, and also have the honor of being able to be surrounded by my family so they can support me throughout the way. We have amazing physicians who always will put the patient first, and care for the patient and the community, and that's what we were looking for. [All] Baptist Health South Florida!
