He served as Cardinal, Archbishop of Toledo, General Inquisitor of Castile, and twice as Regent of Castile. A Franciscan reformer, he led an ascetic life while supporting education and culture, founding the University of Alcalá and publishing the polyglot Bible. He oversaw the Christianization of Granada, sent missionaries to the Americas, and defended the rights of indigenous peoples. Cisneros also conquered Oran in 1509 and presided over the Regency Council after Queen Isabella’s death.
