At the beginning of a new year, Matthew’s Gospel invites us into a story of courage, curiosity, and holy risk. The Wise Men set out with little more than a shimmering sign in the sky—and discover that God often guides us not with a map, but with enough light for the next step. In this reflection on Matthew 2:1–12, we explore what it means to follow a remembered light, to listen to voices from the margins, and to recognise Christ not in palaces of power, but in the quiet vulnerability of a child. Along the way, we contrast the fear of Herod with the faith of the Magi, and ask what it means for us—personally and as a church—to take a new road this year.
