Step by step guide to insertion of a CV Cath to a neonate. The following is a general outline of the steps involved in the insertion of a CV Catheter in a neonate. Performing this procedure need proper medical training and supervision: Preparation: Ensure that all necessary supplies and equipment are available and sterile. Gather a CV Catheter kit, sterile drapes, gloves, masks, caps, and gowns. Confirm the neonate's identity and verify the procedure with the medical team. Patient Preparation: Place the neonate in a warm, well-lit, and stable environment. Administer General anaesthesia to have immobile neonate. Place the neonate in a supine position (on their back) with head slightly tilted to the opposite side of the insertion site. Sterile Field Setup: Prepare a sterile field around the insertion site using sterile drapes. Ensure all medical personnel in the room are wearing appropriate sterile attire. Vein Selection: Identify the appropriate vein for catheter insertion. Common sites include the internal jugular, subclavian, or femoral vein. The choice of site may depend on the neonate's condition and the medical team's preference. In this case right internal jugular vein was chosen. Catheter Insertion: Modified Seldinger technique was used to insert the catheter into the vein using ultrasound guidance. Confirm correct placement of the catheter in the vein and check for blood return. Securing the Catheter: Once the catheter is in place, secure it to the skin using sutures, securement device, or sterile dressings to prevent dislodgement. Catheter Connection: Connect the catheter hub to an appropriate extension set or tubing for intravenous (IV) access. Post-Insertion Care: Ensure the catheter is functioning properly and check for any signs of complications. Monitor the neonate closely for any adverse reactions or signs of infection. Chest X ray was taken to confirm the CV Catheter positioning. Documentation: Record all details of the procedure, including catheter size, insertion site, and any complications that may have occurred.
