A car lost control and ran over two women visiting Washington D.C. in April 2018. For a few antagonizing moments, they were trapped under the vehicle as people gathered around them. Quickly, good Samaritans lifted the car off of the women, but they didn’t have quite enough strength to move it. As they set it back down, it pushed all the air out of the lungs of one woman, Ginger Weygand. “I can remember sticking my hand out trying to get someone to see me because they didn’t see me at first,” she said. “I was just so afraid that no one saw me.” More people rushed to help and on the second try, they were able to move the car off the two women. Kathy Stanley, the other woman pinned, said it was a miracle she is even alive. Both were injured and traumatized from the incident on 9th and K Street but say it brought them closer together with their coworkers that had witnessed the crash. The two are instructional coaches from Opelika, Alabama and were in D.C. for a math conference. They say it deepened their faith in God and moved them to see the good in people. “You never know what someone is going through or what their destination was, but for them to stop and come together for five minutes to help someone — they have a really good heart and I appreciate them,” Kathy said.
