I was challenged by the legendary DJ Dolores to produce a track for a documentary about Lia de Itamaracá, the Brazilian Queen of Ciranda. The main goal was to present her to the rest of the world. He had also asked Mário Lúcio, another historical Cape Verdean figure, to write a song specially for this occasion so we ended up with this beautiful Atlantic collaboration. I loved the final result so much that I had the urge to include a different version of it in my “Neon Colonialismo” album. Our dialogue and the lyrics do reflect our colonial history in common - Portugal was the biggest Atlantic Ocean slave trader, displacing more than 5 million people between West Africa, Angola, Cabe Verde and Brasil. The video uses original footage made for the documentary “Africa de Itamaracá”.
