Mystic City Assassins Presents: Killah Priest | Tai Chi ・Nomen X Edit Heavy Mental. Killah Priest’s magnum opus. A perfect balance of production, mystery, and timeless lyricism. Steeped in history, yet prophetic and innovative. The definition of a hip hop classic. Since it’s release in 1998, Heavy Mental has remained my favorite album of all time. Initially when conceiving the Mystic City Assassins channel, my motivation to create video edits for golden era classics, came from this. Ultimately, my goal is to create videos for every track on the album, including the interludes, for next year’s 25 anniversary of the album. (are you trying to tell me that you will fight against me? ) Oh you will win that too. For if you fail to silence me, you know what I will do. (what will you do physician? ) I will go among the people, And try to answer the questions that burn in their hearts The questions that I've asked myself, for all my life Wherever I've wandered in the world, and which were answered for me By a dying man, I will wear the clothes of a slave And kick the sandles from my feet, and speak to the wives As they fry their fish before their mudhuts by the river To the porters on the docks, to the smiths by their belows To the slaves under the yolks, and I will say... These opening lines had me mesmerized to the speakers, back in 98, and continue to do so, to this day, with every listen. Undoubtedly the most prolific, yet underrated member of the Clan, the aura of Killah Priest shines throughout his debut masterpiece, Heavy Mental. Experiencing this tape as a teenager in 1998, had an immeasurable influence on my perception of hip-hop, storytelling & composition. Held together by the nostalgic urban soundscapes created by producers True Master, Y Kim, and 4th Disciple, this album was, and remains a classic. In honor of this groundbreaking gem (Heavy Mental), the Japan-based producer Nomen X, along with Mystic City Assassins, is proud to present the "Tai Chi - Nomen X Edit."
