Reproduction is the process by which living things create more of their own kind to ensure their species survives. The most basic part of this process involves making a copy of the organism's DNA, which acts as a blueprint for the body. Sometimes, these copies have small changes called variations, which are helpful because they allow populations to adapt to changing environments. In asexual reproduction, a single parent produces offspring that are almost identical to itself. This can happen in many ways, such as a cell splitting into two (fission), a new organism growing out of a bud (budding), or new plants growing from roots or leaves (vegetative propagation). Sexual reproduction is more complex and involves two parents, a male and a female, combining their DNA to create a new individual. This method creates more variations, which is good for evolution. In flowering plants, reproduction happens when pollen is transferred to the female part of the flower to form seeds. In humans, the body goes through a period of change called puberty to prepare for reproduction. The male reproductive system produces germ-cells called sperms, while the female system produces eggs. When a sperm fuses with an egg, it forms a zygote that develops into a baby inside the mother's body. It is also important to understand reproductive health to maintain a healthy society. In humans, if an egg is not fertilised, the lining of the uterus breaks down and leaves the body in a monthly cycle called menstruation. Because sexual acts involve close contact, they can spread diseases, so using protection is vital. People also use contraceptive methods, such as condoms or pills, to prevent unwanted pregnancies and plan their families. This helps ensure that children are born when parents are ready to care for them and that the population remains stable.
