ICELANDIC! My Golden Anniversary (50 Years) today!

Come and celebrate with me today, 28th of February 2026, the 50th anniversary of my started the journey of learning the Modern and Old Icelandic (Old Norse) languages. I was a keen 17-year-old super fan of stories about the Viking Age and I’d discovered that the Viking language was still alive in Iceland, an isolated island far up in the North Sea, just below the Arctic Circle. Learning Icelandic from such a distance, especially before the Internet, has been a very long journey with many ups and downs, but I’ve enjoyed every bit of it. In this video I tell you a bit about how it all happened and about some of the wonderful books and people that helped me along the way. The journey continues and I like to think I have another 50 years in me if modern science plays its part. I’ll only be 117 after all.😀 I’d love to help you on your quest to learn the Viking language and I’ll be making lots more videos about this. Please ask any questions you want in the comments below.
