An overwhelming majority of about 120 crore Indians subsist at the bottom of the economic pyramid with limited access to quality education and medical facilities. There are about 10 crores in the middle segment who aspire to reach the top segment that has about 12 crores who are in a socio economic space at par with developed economies. For India to become a developed nation, those in the upper strata must give back, more than at present levels, to uplift those at the bottom through upskilling, donations, projects that contribute. While Corporate Social responsibility is mandatory in India, why not a self mandated individual responsibility from those in the top strata to help re-shape the pyramid? Society can learn from the ancient times in India where the Ashrama system was tailored for giving back, as one travelled each of the four stages - Brahmacharya (Student life), Grihasta (Householder), Vanaprasta (Retired) and the Sanyasa (Old age). Subhadra Kunduri is a strategy director and business leader with over 20 years of experience in strategic planning and global business development. Currently at BRISK GLOBAL CONSULTING, she focuses on MSMEs in urban renewal, CleanTech, and food commodity supply chains within emerging markets. Her professional expertise is anchore by an elite academic background from Saïd Business School (University of Oxford), London Business School, and EFLU Hyderabad. Beyond her corporate achievementsin managing multilateral agency-funded projects, she is an accomplished author, recognized for her evocative work, Jasmine Trails: Hymns of Heart, Chants of Motherland. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
