A French gossip magazine reports Jolie says she was horrified by attacks on Madonna over her adoption of a toddler from Malawi. But according to the magazine, Jolie suggests Madonna took a risk because of Malawi's adoption laws. Gala magazine quotes Jolie as saying that Madonna knew the situation in Malawi. Jolie says the country doesn't really have a legal framework for adopting. She adds that she prefers "to stay on the side of the law." But People magazine says Jolie maintains she wasn't trying to criticize Madonna. People says Jolie's issued a statement saying that the Gala article included "many falsehoods" and omitted "many positive things."
