This time, we joined our friend Stephanie from ‪@ThriftingAdventures‬ for a full day of garage sales, estate sales, and antique hunting through Kelso and Longview, Washington. Could these old logging towns hold valuable vintage finds? Our day begins at the Kalama Vintage Marketplace, where a quick loop leads to a Viking ashtray at a great price—an auspicious start to our thrifting adventure. From there, we explore nearby towns for antiques, collectibles, and mid-century treasures. In Kelso, a community garage sale yields a $5 religious lenticular, undervalued antique sterling silver brushes, two vintage card games, and a Lenox swan for under $3. Stephanie scores unused makeup for $2 each, while we pass on a tempting kayak. At Longview’s only estate sale, pop culture favorites like Snoopy and Strawberry Shortcake are pricey, but a 1903 canning jar is a bargain at just 25% of retail. We also discover Navajo jewelry, a whimsical 1940s Shawnee teapot, silver-overlay glass, and Annalee dolls. The surprises continue with a driveway sale featuring items from an abandoned container—models, beer glasses, pottery steins, and vintage glassware. I finally get the 1937 Cord I have always wanted, plus more ceramics and collectibles. Another stop brings an antique oak phone in perfect condition at an irresistible price. From vintage aprons to Royal Albert china for $1 each, a yard full of a retired antique dealer’s stock has us filling the car. The day ends at a giveaway sale where we receive applied-flower porcelains, a Pyrex trivet, and a vintage sprinkler for free—and still buy more to support the sellers. Finally, we return to Kalama’s 1st Street Antiques to see how bargains like ours are valued.
