NVIDIA ’s PLANS FOR SILICON PHOTONICS REVEALED MARCH 18 -VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS.

Just ahead of Optica’s Executive Forum in SFO during OFC Conference on March 31st 2025, CEO Jensen Huang revealed NVIDIA’s roadmap for Silicon Photonics. As you may recall from last year's OFC and the Optica PECC Summit 2024 a main topic of discussion was how and when silicon photonics would replace copper in datacenters. THE SILICON PHOTONICS HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE KEYNOTE During his keynote at the GTC AI Conference in San Jose March 18th 2025, Jensen showed us NVIDIA’s Silicon Photonics roadmap. He discusses the limitations of copper for scale-out applications and the problems data centres already have with power as they scale for AI. He announced the world’s first 1.6 TB/sec co-packaged optics system using new Micro Ring Modulators. They claim 100’s of patents which will be licensed to partners. Nvidia says they will ship their Quantum- X silicon photonics switch in the second half of 2025, with the Spectrum X Photonics system following in the second half of 2026. They are clearly already partnering with TSMC, Coherent Corp., Corning Incorporated, Lumentum and other Optica corporate members. I’m sure we will learn more in a few days at the Optica Executive Forum from M. Ashkan Seyedi, NVIDIA Director of LinkX Products, who is speaking on the Photonic Interconnects panel on March 31st.
