Nestled in the hills of North Dorset, the remnants of Shillingstone railway station stand as a relic of the former Somerset & Dorset Joint Railway (S&DJR). However, in the hands of the North Dorset Railway Trust, the Shillingstone Railway Project is beginning to gather pace. Currently standing as a preserved railway in its infancy, the group behind Shillingstone hold the long-term aim of rebuilding the track North, completing the 3 mile stretch to Sturminster Newton - the track-bed of which remains largely undisturbed. The short term aim for the station itself, is to complete a functioning run-around loop within station limits, allowing the future prospect of Brake-Van rides to become a real possibility.
