In this segment of the interview, Jorge Maique, head of the Casa Carrillo cigar factory, discusses his role at E.P. Carrillo and his deep involvement in crafting the 15th Anniversary cigar. Having led the factory for nearly four years, he shares insights into the meticulous production process, including the use of aged tobaccos and unique blending techniques. Maique explains that the wrapper is a San Andrés leaf from the same batch used in La Historia but aged further for this special release. The cigar features a 15-year-old Jalapa binder and a carefully curated filler blend from Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic, including Ligero leaves from Estelí and La Canela. The distinct shape, inspired by the Cuban “Cabeza Tumbada” style, required custom molds and a lengthy development process. Additionally, the packaging was designed to match the cigar’s prestige. The box features a high-end piano lacquer finish, elegant invisible hinges, and a unique "tapa viajera" cover to protect the cigars. Maique highlights that the presentation is just as important as the blend, ensuring a luxurious experience for collectors and enthusiasts. As the interview concludes, Maique expresses excitement about future projects, including a 20th Anniversary cigar in development, and encourages cigar lovers to attend EP Carrillo events to learn more about blending and cigar craftsmanship.
