Uruguayan President Orsi tours Shanghai's tech-savvy Yangshan Port and cultural landmarks

Uruguayan President Yamandú Orsi is currently in Shanghai during his seven-day state visit to China, marking his first official trip since taking office in March 2025. His visit kicked off with a tour of Yangshan Port, one of the world’s largest automated container terminals, where he marveled at China’s cutting-edge logistics technology. Orsi expressed interest in bringing similar innovations to Uruguay to improve port efficiency. On February 6, Orsi visited the Shanghai Museum East, appreciating the blend of ancient history and modern development. Leading a 150-person delegation, the largest in Uruguay’s history, Orsi is focused on strengthening trade ties in beef, soybeans, and wood pulp. During his visit, China and Uruguay signed 19 agreements spanning trade, investment, technology, energy and cultural exchanges. With China as Uruguay’s top trade partner for over a decade, the two countries are expanding cooperation in renewable energy and tech innovation.
