Today, I’m visiting one of the most historically significant sites on Phu Quoc Island—the infamous Phu Quoc Prison. Located about 20 minutes by motorbike from the main town of Duong Dong, this former prison has a dark history. It was originally constructed by the French during colonial rule and later used by South Vietnamese and American forces to detain Viet Cong prisoners during the Vietnam War. 🚗 Getting There: Since there are no buses to the prison, I had to take a Grab motorbike for the journey. Along the way, I noticed how quickly Phu Quoc is developing—large resorts, new buildings, and modern infrastructure are rapidly transforming the island. 🏚️ Inside the Prison: As I walked through the entrance, I was immediately reminded of concentration camps in Europe. The prison has been preserved as a memorial, illustrating the harsh conditions and cruel torture methods endured by prisoners. 🎟️ Entrance Fee: Free Despite being on a tropical island paradise, this visit was a powerful and emotional experience. If you’re ever in Phu Quoc, I highly recommend visiting this site to gain insight into an important part of Vietnam’s history. After this intense visit, it’s time to explore something more uplifting on the island! 👉 Would you visit this historic prison, or would you rather enjoy the beaches?
