Argentine artist Mercedes Azpilicueta reflects on her research-based, interdisciplinary practice—merging installation, textile, drawing, performance, and sound. In this talk, she revisits the inspirations behind her exhibition in Munich, taking the 1853 book An Art Student in Munich by Anna Mary Howitt as a starting point. Azpilicueta delves into feminist histories, collective work, and anti-canonical approaches to art-making, linking historical women’s movements with contemporary struggles. She speaks about her collaborations with artists like Katharina Kasinger and graphic designer Vanina Scolavino, her sculptural language shaped by reused materials, and her longstanding interest in overlooked figures such as Catalina de Erauso, Raquel Forner, and Lea Lublin.
