British Composer Frank Cordell produced arguably his finest film score for this 1969 adaptation of the Gavin Maxwell novel 'Ring of Bright Water'. Mostly filmed on location in Scotland and Directed by Jack Couffer this charming movie starred the real life married couple Bill Travers and Virginia Mckenna. Travers played the role of a London office worker, Graham Merrill, who bored with his life buys an otter he sees in a pet shop window and which he names 'Mij'. He quickly discovers however that a London flat is not the best place to rear a young otter and so Merrill and Mij head for a tiny cottage on the west coast of Scotland, where Merril intends to complete his long time ambition of writing a book on Iraq's marsh Arabs. It is here that Merrill strikes up a close friendship with local doctor Mary Mackenzie (Virginia Mckenna). As the movie unfolds a warm and touching bond develops between human and Otter, undoubtedly enhanced by Cordell's beautiful score.
