Week 14: Oasis in the Desert, Beach Camping, and Dad’s Legendary Chili!

We are officially three months into our 2-year journey across the United States in our old Ford pickup! This week was all about the diverse landscapes of Texas, from the rugged canyons of the borderlands to the salty shores of the Gulf Coast. In this episode: Amistad National Recreation Area: We started the week exploring this "oasis in the desert." Amistad is where the Rio Grande, Devils, and Pecos Rivers meet. We spent our days hiking through rugged canyons and enjoying the crystal-clear waters of the reservoir. Lake Corpus Christi: We hit a milestone this week—our very first Boondockers Welcome stay! We found a peaceful spot near Lake Corpus Christi, enjoying the incredible hospitality of the RV community and some local wildlife (keep an eye out for the javelinas!). North Padre Island: For the finale, we drove the Ford right onto the sand at North Beach for some primitive beach camping. There’s nothing quite like falling asleep to the sound of the Gulf waves and waking up to a sunrise over the water. Dad’s Famous Rosa Chili Cook: We’re wrapping up this travel vlog with a special treat—a family chili cook-off! My dad is breaking out his famous "Rosa" recipe. Is it world-championship level?
