Run completed on 31st December 2023 Ah yes, a dead game but now with a brand new world record. For anyone wondering what the message on the top left is about, it's basically a poem I wrote to discourage people from paying money for P2W games. Although you can download the game in the eshop for free, the gem apple mechanic is integrated in a way that prompts people towards spending at least a few bucks. Weapons, armour, magic items and even just unlocking the bosses becomes very expensive very quickly. This is also the reason why many people dislike this game and I kind of understand why. But this didn't stop me, or anyone else really, from speedrunning the game. If not, it was even more fun since it's not intended to skip 90% of the gear available. I also had many attempts that were a world record time before this, however, I really wanted the new WR to be a sub 3. For programs I used OBS, LiveSplit for my splits and an app called DroidCam to access my phone's camera and record on my pc. Unfortunately, the quality is kind of bad but I found it to be more convenient that way. I recorded the in game audio via jack connection through a microphone/line in port on my pc. In windows sound panel there is an option called "listen to this device" which enables you to hear the audio while it is being recorded. For the best sound quality, raise the volume bar on the Nintendo to max level and lower the volume of the "mic" in windows sound control panel. Otherwise you'll get a lot of hissing noise. I had to edit the audio slightly, however, because it was a bit out of sync with the delayed camera. Also, I didn't record my voice because I was talking to my friends simultaneously. Regarding splits, there aren't many. Only four splits. Since you can (kind of) choose the order in which you beat the bosses it doesn't make a lot of sense to have detailed splits. So I thought it would only make sense to have some important checkpoints instead: 24:47 Whispy Woods because you unlock the gold staff 1:16:35 Taranza because you unlock Deluxe gear 2:30:49 Landia EX because it marks the Any% completion of the game (first set of credits) 2:50:22 King D Mind in the True Final Battle (that one is obvious) Also, I would like to change a few rules (if someone allows me to) 1. Time should stop (like it did in my video) when the mirror which King D Mind is sent back into explodes. It is easier to time and cooler imo because you don't have to click through all the stuff that comes right before the credits. (It's kind of annoying tbh) 2. Wandering adventurers should be banned The feature will be removed in a few months anyway if I'm not mistaken Regarding strategy: Sticking to one role with one set of armour saves the most gem apples. To put it simply, buy full gold DX Mage Beam once you can afford it. It's the sweet spot between fast charging times, damage and cost. Drawcian gear is an option as well. But it's more expensive for mildly easier gameplay, which in turn extends the run's duration by maybe 1 hour. But Beam Mage, especially towards the end, is the way to go. To optimize fragment collection, set the date on Tuesday 22:35pm-22-50pm. On Tuesdays, you get double fire fragments. And when the clock starts late at night, it only takes a bit over an hour for the system to think it's Wednesday. And on Wednesdays, you guessed it, you collect double the water fragments. For light fragments, I simply bought the light fragment codex. Maybe not necessary, but did it anyway. How to get gem apples: Basically get a platinum medal wherever you can. For each world where you have all platinum medals, you get 50 gem apples. On top of that, many bosses have a mission like "under 40 sec completion" or "get a platinum medal" which are very lucrative. The run itself was pretty solid, but ironically far from perfect. There are many mistakes with a time loss of 30-50 seconds each, but at least nothing major went wrong. The last two quests were probably the worst I've ever played. They took way too long for some reason and I went down more times than I intended to. Highlight of the run was me getting a platinum on Parallel Landia. It is super difficult to do, but once you make it, you'll get an additional 18 gem apples for that which helps a lot. And obviously the fact that I managed to save 7 min on the second split was kind of sick. Didn't expect that one at all. I probably won't attempt this speedrun again unless someone tries to take my WR. Maybe then, I'll consider upping my game a bit more ;) Now that's it from my side. I wish all of you a happy new year!
